would have sold my soul for love

i would have done anything for you
i knew that i wanted your love
more than you wanted to give
i wanted love so badly
i needed it
i liked it

i was living with a man that had his wages garnished for four children
a felon, meth cook in recovery
that is how far down i went
for love
i supported him, brought his dinner on a tray
after it was over
restraining order in effect- i gave away everything i owned and left the state
i lost that bet
i knew he was a high risk
but love always takes the floor
like a crazy rock star
magnetic in nature
compelling
dramatic
and full of dellusion
fantasy
when is love real
it hurt me to find out the truth
but i am stronger than that

if only there were some meter we could hook up to, with electrodes capable of measuring love...and only the real thing would light the light, sound the beep that confirms we are on the right track......I don't know of such a machine.....so we all go about it blindly experimenting with theses powerful emotions that sure enough feel like love, but retrospectively emerge as a facsimile......another hard hitter c soul......

i know that with a comet
it will soon change
from elemental to fire to ash
that all the faults
of the mother ooze with cracked skin
tough in some places
soft in others
as it falls and we magneticly draw closer to each other
or are torn
from whatever held firmly
to nothing
at last to meet again
without pain... wings flutter in my ears
the humming birds are back
