in search of wonder

the latitudes of celestial eagles
incalculable by silly mortals
that preen themselves with make-believe
pretend they can make a science
of indisputable truth, with formulas

mere-men in white coats
with big pockets to put stuff in, pens
and pencils, protractors, metric rulers
behind the locked doors of sterile labs,
when the magic of feathered soaring

drives them, the ones with thick glasses
for answers to feather their egos,
rather than acknowledge there will
always be mysteries so precious
they defy reason, categorization,

explanation.........Albert Einstein said
in the shadows of all experiences
there are some things whose beauty
and sublime reach us through hocus pocus.
When one can no longer stand in awe

of the unknown, he is as good as dead
a candle in the wind, there are wonders
our minds will never directly touch,
to me, this is religiousness, and in
this sense, I am a devoutly religious man.

true. it's shocking how far we've come, how much we've discovered, how many answers we've found. a real explosion in scientific endeavor. but it's even more confounding how much science doesn't yet know. (and will it ever?) good theme. i think about these things quite a bit.
