I own you, your souls
it pleases me when
the aforementioned
become infected, I love
the greed and blind faith,
love it when it all begins
to fester and rot

it is then I will name you
chosen ones, and you will
drive my rancid locomotive
like black ambition down
the maggot-ridden highway,
show me hooked generals
show me your heartless desires

you will be handsomely
compensated, yes you will
pillage, rape, steal
for the common good, wink, wink
for our way of life, dark stewards
we will owe the world nothing
no explanations are warranted

It's simple, I'm always hungry
need to be automatically fed
I can't be de-wormed, don't bore me
with the details, just get the job done
it's supply and demand, I demand
you supply me, survival of the meanest
a Darwinian Delight

nothing more, and there is really nothing
you can do to stop me, when the bell
rings in the morning we will sing and dance
our evil, buy this, sell that, obnoxious brats
scream and jump like four year olds, throw
your paper trash in the air, all over
the floor, my possessed little puppets

I am Market, Worship Me !

pretty much..

market grinds on
talking heads bark
they say rows of stucco
from the boom years sit empty
half-done, only a few abandoned tools
foreclosure notes stuffed in mail slots
all is quiet except for desert wind
teenage rituals and wild dogs
don’t forget the wild dogs
roaming ravenous
whistling ruins

city could be left to tumbleweed
cowboy poets reading trail verse
under the sand-blasted golden hulks
yet some screen would flicker
somewhere in the ghost burbs
some barking head analyzing
the goddamned market

does not civilization live and die from the market
our pitiful little suffering lives so dependent upon
the market
our un-holy alliance with capital and trade so
our shameful lives can live and die with some
hideous perception of what it means to have
pride to pay for our suffering and cheating ways
while in the meantime, the merchants laff with
a sardonic sound that resonates with greed
that would even instill fear in the wild wolves
howling under a full moon on 3.19.2011.

damn fine piece, Steve! gracias!

not me, man... I quite paying taxes three years ago...
I'm heavy into the barter system now, and it works.

when the system goes belly-up, I'll be ahead of the game.

I don't even play monopoly anymore.

Folks, I hate to say it, but we are all part of the "market" whether we like it or
not. Barter is still part of the market--just based on an older system.
Cash is just a form of barter using script, metal for goods and services.
That is, I think, the point of saw's poem...A very good poem indeed.
All things that we market are included. As is the information market, which
this site is an example of... 8)

thanx everyone, I really enjoyed the diversity of comments....it is a most pervasive aspect of modern living that seems quite often to express in some fashion the old adage.......money is the root of all evil.....i'm not going to try to offer up an alternative at this point......things are moving quite briskly, and it's a joke to predict what you think is coming next......I'll leave that to the pundit shills....the elite group of guests on the evening news...
thanx again...always pleased when i write something that stimulates a wide range of thought....peace ( calm )

I think the old adage was....

LOVE OF MONEY... is the root of all evil
