MARBAX WATCHES.

Marbax can see the
Waitress from a safe
Place from the table
Of another near
Cafe. He studies
Her movement between
Tables, holding trays,
Her hand suspending
It, her eyes blue as
Summer skies, her blonde
Hair catching the sun.
He sips from his small
Coffee, watching as
She picks up mugs, plates
And spoons, her fingers
Gripping or hooking
Through the small handles.
She looks over but
Doesn’t see him, she
Doesn’t see his eyes
Following her from
Place to place, table
To table. He now
Wishes her hands could
Embrace him, could smooth
His worried brow, and
He could kiss her lips
And soft neck, somehow.
People pass by to
Tables and she’s out
Of his sight; other
Bodies occupy
Her space, block out the
Sun’s warm light. She could
Be his Leda and
He’d be her swan, that
She could stroke his
Neck and embrace him
Warm against winds and
Storm. He studies her
As she reappears,
Studies her pace, her
Walk, her gentle sway,
The way her hand wipes
Her brow, studies her
Small bosom tightly
Packed, her frowning smile,
He will watch now,
Love her in his own
Small way for a while.
