Wife of My Heart

To the one of my heart and my best friend:
I’ve thought of you unceasingly today—
it’s usual for me, the way I play
with you in dreams, the way my thoughts pretend
of schemes we might enjoy— and moments blend
to grins and suddenly I start to pray
in endless thanks for you. And that’s the way
I spend my time— and, God, don’t let it end.
And when I take an inventory of
our life together, everything is grace
and everything is good and everything is you
and every word of my vocabulary: Love—
and every word I have is yours. In case
you hadn’t known I love you, now you do.
