looking for the lovably weird

I have never minded quirky,
mean, though
disturbs me
there was always something
compelling with every
lovely space case
I invited in my house
or if she were crazy enough
to let me in hers,
mania is underrated
dull and sane made me
itch for the door
as society insisted this
was good policy, so
every once in awhile
I would search for this
preposterous place
middle earth, year after year
decade after decade
I'd drift away like a stumbling
lost hiker in search of
a cool drink of plain water
tear the world apart
trying to find this thing
my friends and family
thought made sense,
only to feel the gravitational pull
of feminine eccentricity
suck me down the hole again
when the moon blazed big
and bright without mercy

I looked at you and saw the lovely weird
expression on your face, the way your smile
was bracketed within parentheses
of wrinkled cheeks— the way your eyes were all
but swallowed by the shadows of your brow—
I looked at you and saw that you were real;
and as I’ve seen you – really – in the past
eruptions of your laughter, so I’ll plaster
you on future interactions, seal
you on the reveries of loves I’ll know
that I’ve experienced. And if I fall
from you— like dimples when you cry, like knees
that bow to pray— I’ll pray and weep that while
I keep away, I’ll keep your love revered.
