I’d wanted to propose, but I was lost
among the cherry trees and leaves and birds—
the sun was hot, but beautiful— and jostled
crowds distracted me from all the words
I’d hoped to utter: how I didn’t want
to be your boyfriend, but your husband. And
I wondered if the ring would fit and hunted
for a shade of privacy. I’d planned
our conversation to be quiet, but
I hadn’t planned reality— and yet,
when you said yes, I couldn’t think of what
was less than perfect. We were unforgettable.
I’d wanted to propose to you—
and you eclipsed me, said you love me too.

Joel, Great place to be during cherry blossom time..."heady times" to be in DC.
