giving notice

It’s nice to be appreciated. Thanks.
Except— perhaps— it’s maybe not required.
But still, the hope you’ll notice me: it yanks
at me as if it matters. "Undesired"
is therefore much too strong a sentiment
because I really want to hear you clap
for me. I want your loud applause. I’m bent
on meriting your admiration, captivating
you with who I am. I trust
you understand that’s who I want to be
for me because I want to be— I must
be— someone who is somehow noteworthy.
But listen, if you love me, if you notice:
thank you. I appreciate it so.
