joe campbell desert poem

found the edge of vegas
but the edge marched out
to box up glow in stucco

jeeps on pioneer death trails
waited for their beige suburbs
they found water in the desert
a desert should have no water

entropy is the tendency
to approach homogeneity
the big box theory
of fresh asphalt

the swamp cooler bobbles
on bad bearings on the edge
as the edge creeps out
a cloud of bulldozers

joe campbell's book fell open
grail legends and all those trails
up the same mountain

stay inside
vista tried to impersonate
it was wide open at first
then a few roads closed
and you tried to get back
see those limitless places

I have read this twice and have let it sink into me. A poem to read many times. 8)
