Looking at his house
He sees nothing special
A pile of wood and sheetrock
Bigger than others
But he owes more than it’s worth
His house is underwater
A term he doesn’t understand
In real speak the house belongs to the Bank
To the brokers and the lawyers.
Wanting a piece of the American dream
He misrepresented himself
Taking crumbs from the table
So to speak
Fudging a number here
Adding a zero there
The smart money said it was alright
Don’t worry they told him
Everybody’s doing it.
He and his wife were barely making it
Hoping just to hang in there
Things would get better
They kept telling themselves
But it was too good to be true
The economy went south
Things went wrong
Lost a job
The bills piled up
He and the wife stopped talking
Broke, he feels pushed aside.
There are two sides to every lie
And in this one
There’s a bill somewhere
That’s long overdue
And so my friend
It will have to be paid by me and you.
The Feeling of Being Underwater
Re: The Feeling of Being Underwater
true. when i first saw vegas 12 years ago, i looked at the billion-dollar funhouses and thought, "well, thank goodness the corporations ran the mob out of town"... but, come to find out, runaway corporatism is the new mob, and... where was i?...
oh yeah, there's a war going on. we just can't figure out who the enemy is... i mean, one could say that this housing mess is "all because we the people were dishonest and greedy"... but that ignores the same thing on the other end (ten-thousand-fold), the pushers... whoops... step away from the soapbox, slowly...

Re: The Feeling of Being Underwater
corruption became "just doing business" and no one questioned the ethics, or if you did they tried to make you look like an anti-business demon......every scam was carefully coordinated.....nothing accidental.....and we are left to pick up the pieces of our lives that once seemed okay, with big questions...and a lot of soul searching....how did we not see it coming.....fucked up shit.....greed with no end
a timely piece.....
a timely piece.....
