side saddle

Post by saw » April 27th, 2011, 10:45 am

the anarchist cowboy rides
through the blind canyons of conformity
on a trick pony

ambushers hiding in the rocks
fire away to thwart his rebel nature
the ghostly rider's poetic flair

a devilishly dusty maelstrom
his words, his thoughts, a dark twister
obscuring the sniper's ritual folly

he slaps the menacing reins
left side to right, right to left
hellbent from leather corsets

that bind the imagination,
galloping over censored trails
blazing with insolent eyes

steady as the pony express of yore
outrunning the posse of routine,
slipping the noose, on a hanging day
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

ghost riders in the sky
poet riders in the poem
riders on the storm
is anything but the norm
how many versions of that song
how many poems of any version
the horse whose eyes we whip
if all else fails, said Morrison Jim
if all else fails, do we see the
wit of his poetic whip?

what the poet sees in the long run
but without the poem to ride out
the bleeding writing, where are we
down in the pass, cut them off, around
the bend, forfend, blend, mend, rend.

thanx dadio.....and also thanx rev-rab for the detailed associations.....yes, yes
the ghost rider/writer is part of our fabric.....we know the lure, but still get inspired when we see the whirl of dust and hear that, Hi Ho, Silver !

Thank you, saw.
Got the passions for long adventure.
`Do you know, I was so angry, Kitty,' Alice went on...`when I saw all the mischief you had been doing, I was very nearly opening the window, and putting you out into the snow! And you'd have deserved it, you
little mischievous darling!
