bandera blanca

I sang a hymn of “I Surrender All
to Jesus”— but, as lovely as it was,
the hymn I sang was nothing but a lie—
a lie I wish were true, but nonetheless
a lie— and beautiful and passionate
and genuine— but still, it wasn’t true.
The truth is that I’ve kept myself for me
because to let me go is not to be
and were I to submit to be as you
my life would not be as I fashion it—
and, truly, I’m afraid of nothingness
and, if I give myself to you, I die.
So, since I don’t surrender, take me— ’cause
although my hope is huge, my faith is small.

a poem that is full of the imperfection that makes us human......many of us hope to improve ourselves, in some way ( become a little more perfect perhaps )....but then we remember, oh yea, I'm human.....end of story........faith is tricky as well,
unwavering faith may or may not be good thing.....hard to know...what if we put all our eggs in one basket, and someone steals our basket.......thought provoking poem.......
