steinbeck's jacket

john steinbeck
wearing an inexpensive
but cool
herringbone jacket
enters a room in 1933 where
a woman is singing in wonder
of where she might be bound
accompanied by banjos & dobros
she certainly has never dreamed
of living on a ranch in argentina
or cooking for the men who
run the cattle there
men who have never wondered
about john steinbeck or
the jackets he wore or
how children disappear into adults
or if that disappearance
is ever true

herringbone will always be cool in my mind.....nicely weaved, like the jacket itself
