now that he's dead

now that he's dead
we can all breath a sigh
dance on a grave of shadows
wait for the next evil face
to emerge

now that he's dead
we can have a victory party
slather on a tangy sauce of pride
shoot off cannons
hold a parade

now that he's dead
the doubletalk of talkers
will sound so much nobler
the obscenity of modern war
so much more like freedom

now that he's dead
the cycle turns at last
barkeep, one more round
martyrs and mercenaries
marionettes spinning

It isn’t justice, now that Satan’s dead—
it doesn’t bring to life the victims of
his terror-stricken past or calm the dreadful
nightmares of the flowers cut from love.
It isn’t justice, just to watch him die.
It isn’t justice, still to be alive
without the living friendship you and I
might still have been enjoying. Listen: I’ve
decided justice isn’t something to
achieve and isn’t something to behold
when something simple— just as life— is through
before its story’s ripened to be told.
It isn’t justice, just to kill again—
it’s just revenge and cool, refreshing sin.

justice is a tricky thing....in the eye of the beholder....symbolism is powerful stuff, and this will be viewed passionately from a wide variety of places.....what a dilemma though,..now we need a new demon personified....shall we have a lottery and try to guess who will be the new anti-christ ?......and round and round we go..

joel. i am honored by your poetic response.

dino. it was a quick, instinctive response on my part.

mingo, thanks.

steve. funny you should mention the next evil face to be sent up onscreen... (and i mean, 'funny,' as in 'pathetic') i heard a radio dicussion on that very subject on the day o.b.l. was killed... and so it goes.

jack. yeah, i posted it on l.k., but that place is, well, shall we say, slooooww...

thanks all.
