cult of me, rise of the mysterious stranger

reality is so booooring
I need succulent pseudo-drama
some sexy samplings of public scandal
to make me snicker with my peers

reality is too complex, I can't really
follow the plot and there's no slo-mo replay
I need cliches on steroids
hilarious personal foibles to juice me up

a hypo of Jerry Springer in my arm
some car wrecks with graphic decapitation
spectacles piled on top of spectacles
my reality, is as dull and irrelevant as the truth

cobble some random trivia for me
with a dose of obscure exaggeration
lay out a custom fantasy, you have all
the demographics, all my personal info

please mister, cover up the wanton internal
destruction and theft by the corporate state
give me a fresh-faced smiling demagogue
with a killer personality to give me some hope

Hey Steve, A little hesitant to comment because of our stuff but what the hell...

my reality, is as dull and irrelevant as the truth

I think the last stanza kills the poem and puts the lie to the above statement.

I'm right with you til:

...you have all
the demographics, all my personal info

which implies the BIG brother corporate state and to me is a killer ending to a fine poem

Hey, I'm new to the Studio and sort of nosing around to get my bearings before diving into the deep end. Your poem was the lucky (unlucky?) recipient of my first read and so, my comments-
I'm kind of a stick in the mud traditionalist, so the poem isn't the sort I usually care for, but I gotta say the perspective was a kick. The idea that "reality is too complex" is too complex. I laughed out loud when I envisioned Jerry Springer in my veins. I don't know if I agree with Emel Scott about the last bit, but the whole bit sorta made my head swim. Hence, I could be wrong and I agree with him.
Anyway, it was a fast lane poem in a faster lane. I like it.
