shadow chair

the shadow on the wall
is that of a chair
empty at the moment
when all the thousands of activities of life
have dwindled to very few
the shadow of someone will be sitting there
in that chair
and they won't know their own name anymore perhaps
not because of disease or age or any such
but because it no longer
will matter
i love most everything here but
my anticipation grows, not in morbid fear,
but joyfully towards that day
when my shadow will be the one
sitting in the shadow chair
on the edge of
the only decisive frontier there is
is that of a chair
empty at the moment
when all the thousands of activities of life
have dwindled to very few
the shadow of someone will be sitting there
in that chair
and they won't know their own name anymore perhaps
not because of disease or age or any such
but because it no longer
will matter
i love most everything here but
my anticipation grows, not in morbid fear,
but joyfully towards that day
when my shadow will be the one
sitting in the shadow chair
on the edge of
