The, Revolution Will not be Televised!!!
the evolution will not be propagandized
thank you Gil for filling us in on the real
can I ever forget that voice that was like
what it was, like what it is, that was coming
from that late sixties head space, tell it
like it is
what it is
a Coltrane voice, a black panther of fire voice
a Beat bebop hep hap voice like all the sol bros
rolled into one big joint voice
smokin and chilin, and a gillin
cluing us in to the big picture
big fro voice, ah, that winter in America
damn! the revolution will not be copped
will not be co-opted
will not be marginalized
rap it like it is…with that cool as silk sound
that also recreates the street noise & machine
also contains the cry of the oppressed & downtrodden
howls along with Ginsberg & Dylan, “times a changin”...“through the negro streets…”
lookin for that…revolution fix…angry…
passionate….resolute
how does it feel…to be like a rolling revolution
that will not be on TV for all the above reasons
thank you Gil for your revolutionary will to art
you were there at the start, with all that deep heart
I could listen to you sing those well chosen words
to that well made jazz and blues
you the jazz and the jam and the clarified butter
all rolled into one living revo-lu-tion
om om om on…right on….power to the people
them “meditations” that riff on them “love Supreme”
and revolution will be live, no jive, no dive
no dice, unless they roll with the vo-lu-tion
will not be smell-advised
not be 3-D OD-ed
will not be buried under media infomercials
will not be a rapture but it will be a rap true
it will sing the blues and belt out that poetry
that cuts through the bull-sheet, it will greet
the saints when they come marchin in
come on bro…when the real revolution comes
all the great voices of freedom will ring true
you sound like a record on a revolution turntable
with all them scratch a scratch, needle in the groove…got to move…to dance…to shout it out
it comes like Monk, like Miles, like all them
hep cats, hip-hop cats, all them Last Poets
marchin in the jazz dawns of new revelations
singing with a sound, that has been stepped on
has been ghetto-ed on, been razor edged on
been lied to on, been bombed, banned, canned
been assassinated on, cracked, shacked,lacked
but has not been drowned out by fake news
thank you Gil Scott-Heron, sweet brother
Love & Peace…right on!!! right on!!!
