night of the living dead consumers

from tract houses in the devil's driveway
they came, through a smog of uniformity
circuit chip on every table, SUV in every pot
across the grim fresh asphalt underworld
wallets a-wheeze with plastic prosperity
past tubs of mayo and mono-culture
crusades exploding on video screens
steely eyed joes in vast column matrices
with malice of a million beer commercials
inexorably toward aisle thirty-seven
fists full of bleeding red bar codes
left foot lurch, right foot drag
lurch and drag
lurch and drag

steve, when we started worshiping the corporate god, the big box temples, the wal-mart-ification of society, we messed with the character of our communities no doubt. i called it "entropy" in my book-- "the universe tending toward a state of homogeneity..."

hest... good to see you back. thanks. i actually wrote this one about 5 year ago, at the height of our overheated, over-inflated plastic, binge economy . . . the zombies have had to cut back some since then . . .
