I wonder if he misses her
if he thinks about her as often as she thinks about him
if he finds himself trapped in the past
tangled in memories
if her laughter still echoes in his ears
if he ever finds himself fighting back tears
for her

I wonder if he has re-created himself
pretends to be the man she always wanted him to be

I wonder if his mind is consumed with jealousy
and he lives only to shut out the memories
the constant memory of her
I wonder if he still has hope in the back of his heart
for them
if he’s working hard to be a better person
Does he hope every day that this will be the one
that she gives in and calls
is he surprised
when she never does
if he longingly looks into someone’s eyes
and realizes they aren’t her eyes
and they never will be

does he search for someone similar to her
hoping to replace her altogether
but it never works out
because it isn’t her
does he realize what he’s lost

or did he just want to be the victor
