i was not a gunslinger then
in fact i've never been a gunslinger
but i've walked out those doors
into the streets
again & again as if i knew something
about it all
but now the stories in my stomach
are attempting to escape my skin
i will need the doctors soon
they will put me to sleep
and enter me like a cave
with little lights & tiny machines
perhaps to find the paintings on my walls
but they will never see the days when
i was not a gunslinger
days when girls wishing to expose themselves
& the secrets of mankind
were everywhere
the days when magic was easy
and tricks natural
days when my father
was still alive

i have to say your poems kinda blow my mind
i guess that is watt i be lookin fer

i don't know, writing is such a habit
i use to know watt i was lookin for
or so i thought, like tryin to write about Howl
which seems as fresh today as it did the day it was written
in the sense that all that poetic energy and skill comes together
in a time, a moment of concentrated connection that sweeps us up
like so much wadded up poems that never see the light of day, or
maybe we find the wad on the floor and read it....a life time ago

i saw Ferlinghetti read a few times, and Jack Hershman a couple
i remember when Hershman called himself a Stalinist, now he
calls himself an Internationalist,I recall when Bobby Kaufman
came into City Lights one night when i was in there in the basement
and asked Fellinghetti for a dollar, and Ferlinghetti said"i don't have a dollar'
and Bobby just kept askin him.

a place on some map...

Thx for your comments, rr. I never could write consistently but once in awhile something will break surface. It's not like it used to be but then again what is?
8) Thx for reading & glad you enjoyed.

terrific journey....fantasy-like, but anchored in reality......a trip I'm sure many of us been on during the course of a life.....the only thing we can count on is change
