don't know
which one to embrace
this evening
gloom or doom
the latter makes more sense
why prolong things
oh my, listen to me
feeling sorry for you know who
it's just
myself, but myself can be
so all encompassing
some nights
even when I comprehend
that I am but a baby tsetse fly
on a gorilla's ass
oh c'mon, let me have my pity
for a few more hours
let me keep
this inspiration
that fuels my black poetry
how else
will I capture the devil
on my shoulder
what else can I use
to give me the eyes to see
how good I have it

sometimes you gotta grab the little sucker on that shoulder and let the devil out.
muck it out, and then, carry on . . .

pretty short swing between doom and gloom, maybe a different title?

Foucault's Pendulum
They used to have one in the Glen L Martin Engineering building at College Park Maryland. I would stand there with the earth rotating beneath my feet and not feel a thing. The illusion that I was standing still.
Nothing to do with your poem which I enjoyed.
Doom or gloom and then the boom
I have heard that the only prayer that matters is gratitude.
Doom and gloom
That is what I miss about George W. Bush. He was so upbeat, you would never find him dwelling on the negatives.
Yeah I cried myself a river, but since I turned seventy, life is so much sweeter, and I am so much more feared of dying
What was the woody allen quote about how miserable life is and then it is over too quick.
I am telling you SAW, longevity has its blessings
The glooms are gloomer the dooms doomer

thanx everyone, really enjoyed the comments...btw truck, loved your "old man" ramblings, for I too am cut from that cloth.....& scott, as so often happens with my writing, you missed the intention....the pendulum is not swinging between gloom and doom, it's clearly swinging between gloom & doom and " how good I have it."..........peace

Love this tire swing type poem. For that is what life is...
Saw, you have it figured out. Long shadows come right before the dark.
"The darkest hour is always right before sunrise."
