DYING IN THE NOW.

There were double doors
On the locked ward; two
Doors to get through to
Escape, if you so intended.
They brought breakfast,
Dinner and supper through
Those double doors; young
Nurses taking them to that
Large table in the dining room
Where you all sat or walked
Around in circles waiting for
Release or to feel better, and
You gazed out of the window
At the snow on fields and trees
And birds flying through the
White cold sky, knowing behind
You the table was set and food
Laid out and ready, watching two
Magpies peck through the snow,
Them not knowing what it was you
Saw dying in snow those years ago.
On the locked ward; two
Doors to get through to
Escape, if you so intended.
They brought breakfast,
Dinner and supper through
Those double doors; young
Nurses taking them to that
Large table in the dining room
Where you all sat or walked
Around in circles waiting for
Release or to feel better, and
You gazed out of the window
At the snow on fields and trees
And birds flying through the
White cold sky, knowing behind
You the table was set and food
Laid out and ready, watching two
Magpies peck through the snow,
Them not knowing what it was you
Saw dying in snow those years ago.
