Dark Tangle

Not long having walked in the dark
Through a place so few would dare
A dangerous place grim and stark
A place where a foul scent fills the air

Hungry wild beasts ever out to mangle
And break you upon cold grey stones
So pass with care through this tangle
Or have marrow scraped from your bones

Out of shadows deep they do come
Their savage growls rule the night
Chilling enough to make you numb
A terrible evil and ancient fright

The vultures circle above their dens
A foul scent now fills the night air
Upon good woodcraft your life depends
So pass through this tangle with care

Good poem. I'm used to the urban jungle but nature, not just human nature, has a bloody claw. Did you ever read "Pilgrim At Tinker's Creek"? That's one of my favorite books.
