once again you feel compelled
to tell the world what makes a poem
it must be nice to be an expert
able to leap tall metaphors in a single bound
the only one capable of stopping a locomotive of schlock

yes yes I know, I know
you will lay it all out for me, the art
of the deal, the way it was, the way
it should be, please please, tell me
again for the umpteenth time how to see

truth... truth?...truth is you don't want my truth
it doesn't match the proper shapes of the jigsaw
it's too much for those without reckless bones
too impossible, too ridiculous, too contrived
obviously strays from the all the conventions

maybe I should tone it all down a notch
serve it up like the others, I can't bear to see
your contorted face with the nausea lipstick
smeared from sore ear to sore ear
I'll only write about rainbows and flying fish

only PC shit with perfect meter, no politics
religion, old girlfriends, " be a nice little kitty
don't piss on my rug, it brings the whole room
together."....I'll write like the masters, like you!
leave my voice and fingerprints on the cutting room floor

damn it, there I go again, apologizing for the way I really feel.

footprints in the sand
dead koi in a lotus pond
grey gulls swooping
the air
the moon catches
the breath it never takes,
what does it take
to be here now?
