The Hopi Language
is a poetic prophecy
Hopi words mean more then
we can find words for
a tree could be a rock
or a mirage be a spirit

the surrealists were looking
for this kind of way of speaking
psychology was still symbolic
the unconscious had just arrived
from the underworld
with a river of winged glyphs

In order to find the universal
to communicate the impossible
a poet put on the bird mask
to see into the other world
through that drape of cloth
over the head the images were taken
like photographs of the other side

the communicating vessel
takes on shapes or becomes a charm
the charm shows the way through the solid
mist, a veil parts, the voice becomes vision

The poet has always been an oracle unto him/herself.
