what do you know of courage

Post by saw » August 27th, 2011, 3:09 pm

I'm so fearless
I ignore the check engine light
flashing on the dashboard
of my brand new automobile,
I scoff
at the blinking warning
at the crosswalk, run
with scissors through the intersection
double daring commuters
waving my fingers
on the side of my nose
with my free hand at all the losers
on their way to work, the naive fools
tucking dollars into saving accounts
in socks, in the pages of books, so sure
they will get a chance
to spend it one day, I pity that they
will never know the exhilaration
that comes from recklessly plunging
a fork into the toaster
to spear your English muffin,
the thrill
from soaking in a claw footed tub
listening to AC DC at volume ten
your electric radio just inches
from one of the metal toes, but
my co-workers do know I live
on the edge, they have seen me
mouth the words, Eat Me
behind the boss's back
hundreds of times and not a single one
of them has had the guts to call
in sick as many times as I have,
Sniveling Cowards !....the lot of them
I laugh inside when they whine about
forgotten one-a-day vitamins
I smirk with arcane delight
knowing
I haven't flossed in a month.
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

I can't run with scissors, I can't disobey.
It's certain I've flossed at the end of the day.
My week's eighty hours, I can't call in sick.
I'd never admit if my boss were a prick.
But sometimes the priest I am has to rebel:
I preach God's a Love that burns no one in hell.
