OH WELL.

Oh well, never mind, less said,
Sooner mended, Mother said,
Placing the ironed blouse on the pile.

Gloria studied her mother’s back,
The way the apron tied at the back,
Pulled tight around her waist,
The outline of the bra showing through
Her thin green dress. I don’t want to say less,
Gloria said, I want to say more, I don’t
Want that creep to think he can get away
With dumping me for another.

Mother picked up a shirt and laid it
On the ironing board and began to push
The iron over. And I do mind. I mind quite a lot
And I don’t want it sooner mended; I want him
Fucked up and the affair soon ended.

Gloria, Mother said. Such language please,
This is a respectable house, we do not use
Words like that. I have never heard such words.

But she had; years before, when she’d fell pregnant
With Gloria by some blue-eyed GI after he said it
Was just one of those things and a cold goodbye.

Oh well, Oh well, it is one of my favorite sayings these days.

Thanks for the poem, it suits my mood these days
when murderers walk around free in clean underwear
and write books to set the record wrong

America America
get fucked
just one of those things

pardon the ramble
your poem floated my boat this morning 8)
I know my reply seems unrelated to it
but for me it is related, entangled way down at the quantum level.
thank you for writing terry
