"Your eyes weren't open when the world awoke
today— too early for a sabbath rest,
too late to start a new creation," spoke
a voice in whispers, trying to digest
this night that passed without you in it for
the first of many standard ended days.
"You surname won't be guilty anymore
because you simply will not be." It stays
however far away from you: the voice
you'd known, you'd loved— who, best of all, loved you.
You're carried somewhere now, your bodied hoisted
off— your breath still left where it was through
where someone's voice had prayed and flinched—
whose love would not ignore— when you were lynched.
