a picture on the wall
your face
stares at me from across the room
and i would gladly take it down
but the wall is discolored
behind the frame
and I don't really have
any extra photographs that size
to substitute for it

I never noticed
that your eyes are just like
Mona Lisa's
they follow me
wherever I go
I have no privacy
and I guess I could put
duct tape
over the frame
but that adhesive is impossible
to remove
and I don't want to scratch
the glass, and sure as hell
don't want to paint
the whole fucking room
just for one stupid picture

so
for the time being
you are lucky
you get to
hang around
for a little while
longer

I should laugh out loud, wait, I just did.

p.s. don't you know nutin' 'bout decorating? Just take her photo, remove it and replace it with a cut square of wrapping paper, or even a favourite poem from a book, with photo shop borders. Get thee to a flea market or a resale shop and pick up a painting (that could be worth thousands like my daughter did).
