that we breathe through the poem

Post by revolutionrabbit » November 6th, 2011, 1:45 am

If I thought I would never write poetry again
If I thought that you would leave me
stranded here at the end of time and totality
If I thought the words would bleed from my
heart, like drops of eternity

If I thought I would never see your face again
If I thought all the poems I have written
are but fallen leaves in a glass universe
If the sun was but an ancient window
in an even greater window of flowers

If the day I first met you you whispered
something to me that that I thought I
would remember until the stars all ran away
If I thought I would never look into your eyes again
I could recall why this poem would be made again

if I thought the tears would rain like bullets
if I thought the flood of hurt would come again
If I would never run my hand over your hair
and hold your hand and feel golden light of you

If the years that we shared were like pebbles
on the beach and your laughter was like waves
of green and we walked along the days with wise
skies to hold us to the threshold of infinite breath
that we breathe each other
through the poem
I remember a day in the distance
she is standing there the perfect image
colors seem to be waving around her shape
I can't quite grasp the golden reflection
she was young and beautiful
there was a sweet light in her eyes
there was something about the free hair
the way the color seemed to catch light
did that day last forever before it ended?
there was nothing but love about that day
I see it now as the poem that I always loved
but I was struck by the mystery of the poetic
A kind of lasting impression that I must write
but there is nothing I can say about that day
only that if I remember it it lasted forever
she is standing there with that pure love
all about her that pure light that was about her
she was in front of a window pane of a small store
and in the window was some kind of wooden animal
and she seemed to be looking into the eternal light
shedding through the trees across the forever street
everything is soft about the aura of her sensitive look
with almost a question but more just a smile embrace

we walked around the corner of windy shadows trace
went along paths of turning pages and whirling penny
you were my priestess in a lovely midnight robe of stars
we invoked the deep space of life and love held each
other fast to the soft flesh of our shared waking dream
I never imagined that the poem of us would write itself
that the words would float through our transparent selves
