our remote wars

Post by mnaz » December 10th, 2011, 5:30 pm

our wars are remote
emotionless, weightless
far from our hustle and screens
our wars, not owned

detached and complacent
depraved and courageous
patriotic, catastrophic
formless, forgotten

removed from the truth
from the scorched earth
from the suffering and pain
removed and damn proud

god bless the vendors
pushers and profiteers
blockbuster of the year
the bombs bursting in air

stand beside her, guide her
surgical hellfire damnation
detonation drones, with the
cleansing blood of capital

god bless the predators
reapers, vipers and sentinels
the k street cronies, kickbacks
mercenary billions blowback

pray to the gods of grumman,
boeing, lockheed and raytheon
the pantheon of missile-sleek
weapons of mass depletion

stand beside her, serve !
protect her way of life !
kill her enemies of freedom
they hate us for our freedom

kill them over there, not here
win the war on drugs, on terror
safe and sound in runaway fear
secure in our prison cell.

support the troops
as they drift farther away
so far they may switch sides
come for you one day

when I said "inspired" on the other poem
I meant the way you wrote it, I was looking
at the way you wrote it, not what it was about
so much, it was the way the lines moved into
one another, a feeling, you have that in all your
poems, but writing about all the war stuff all
we hear anymore, all we have ever heard, as bad
as it was when I was young could have not imagined
how much worse it would be.....oh where has poetry
gone, give poetry a chance.Actually I did imagine, but
how can I? I managed to not get drafted, but can I ever
get the bombs out of my mind? years ago the word "drone"
meant to me, for someone that was chanting OM on the one
low drone, like Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

om

thanks man. i guess it's not true to say i'm not inspired to write these. i am inspired to anger for sure. inspired to put a message out there in some way, any way, that looks at endless state-run violence from a wider angle and perspective than our damned one-dimensional, tunnel-visioned propaganda boxes. yes, inspired...

music and art assimilated into the big corporate cube awhile back, with a few outliers here and there . . . i was heartened to see some passion finally stirring in "the public" in the o.w.s. protests. finally. maybe we're not dead after all. maybe the poetry will come back . . .

well, anti-something at least...

. . . being honest about various issues that we need to deal with should be a good thing, not a bad one ... and we got some issues, past and present ...
