Holiday Poem

maybe not a poem
maybe just a message from my heart
that has supped on joy
and is filled now to sadness
for time
like the earth
keeps moving on
and the wine and our days age
I want to drift
into my imagination
keep snug in it
while exploring the lonely alleys
the gift-wrapping, the untied ribbons
the emptiness
it is stupid
to dwell on the sorrow
most of it imagined
as I am mostly happy
the children's eyes, voices
the whir of battery operated gadgets
the pings and bongs of computer games
the superhroes in their disguises
the baby dolls with their wide eyes
is it happiness is it sorrow
that streams out of my eyes
like some uncontrollable tidal force?
the questioning
is too intellectual
and my heart is not
intellectual
(thanks saw for some of the inspiration for this poem)
maybe just a message from my heart
that has supped on joy
and is filled now to sadness
for time
like the earth
keeps moving on
and the wine and our days age
I want to drift
into my imagination
keep snug in it
while exploring the lonely alleys
the gift-wrapping, the untied ribbons
the emptiness
it is stupid
to dwell on the sorrow
most of it imagined
as I am mostly happy
the children's eyes, voices
the whir of battery operated gadgets
