Do you have any idea
what crimes I might perpetrate
just to see you smile,
I don't either
but the notion frightens me,
who doesn't want to
step, as they say, into the light
even if we don't agree on the source
of sunshine we still agree
we'd like to go there,
emerge from the temporary darkness
of our self-imposed prison farm,
yea, it's too bad we often get lost
in our convincing routine, find this
tiny measure of comfort
in the rote strides
we place perfectly inside
our petrified footprints,
too busy we say to venture out
into the stalking day that waits for us
where real people mingle
in the mundane air of geometry
eyes down, spirit on the shop floor,
isn't it always a surprising surprise ?
don't we always get taken aback ?
though ultimately, instantly relieved
when someone out of the blue,
smiles at us.
