collapse into tenderness

We have gone so far, reaching and

I'm lamenting a collapse that has not
yet happened, I'm buzzing around the periphery
of your I.

What did you dream of yesterday that
made you who you think you are? Am I your sister
your friend, your lover? Who am I in your denial?

Let us stop and get directions this time around, let us
plan an alternate destination, a pathway to the stars' abiding night
with the quicksilver moon.
Let us silently
sit near the river and speak of things anew,
diving into inextricable kismet.

You and I, masked players in a one-woman band,
together we drown in a broken sea. You and I wrapped up
so tightly, intimate in our frailty. Together we sing a tenderness,
on our inexorable way to meet the darkness inside the light
and we are never alone, though we suffer the smiles of an orphaned war child.
And the walls between us fall into the original symmetry of white-breasted mountaintops.
