Lenten discipline

Post by joel » March 3rd, 2012, 2:58 pm

I'm gonna buy each bum his booze for Lent
and cigarettes for ev'ry homeless fucker
till the dough I make is baked and spent
on dope for dregs whose lives are down on luck.
To help her education, I'ma tuck
my dollars in the crackstrap of a whore,
but, if the traffick's thick and I get stuck,
I'll pay some boyish buck till he's not poor.
I'm gonna blow my alabaster wad
upon the feet of patriotic dreams
and rub in pussy fashion up on God
and cry myself to sleep within the schemes
I scrounge like crumbs off dirt-and-dogshit floors—
so if your love is mine, the glory's yours.

Splendid. This is poetry that bites and loves all rolled up. 8)

Thank you very much for the poem.
I spent ash Wednesday downtown San Antonio trying to keep my back against the wall. Trying not to get paranoid about all those people walking around with black crosses on their forheads.

I needed that poem a lot :D
