Less Than Six Lines

In these fast times of instant gratification
Scant inspiration derived from the poets of old
Attention spans stretched thin after only five lines
Wandering long winded poets left out in the cold
Yet they still exist regardless of fads and fast times
Muddy boots, marble floors, stiff rules and regulations
Ever disrupting the halls where souls are bought and sold
Tapping cold shoulders when failing to meet expectations

It’s warmer outside than in some of those halls
Stretching horizons beyond, endless sky overhead
Often it is all narrowly described in less than six lines
Usually there is much more than can possibly be said
Too many lines to pen in these fast and finagling times
Approval or rejection, polls, surveys and making many calls
Seeping into dark dreams of the damned late at night, lying in bed
Conceived to be born, live, linger then die, fare, fade and finally fall

I agree, and

sometimes the mirror gets foggy, as the shortness of thought may
be meant for the reader's sake.

I like to write monsters at times.

Conceived to be born, live, linger then die, fare, fade and finally fall.
...where is the circle ?

Well said. It is of course not how long or short a poem is but the subject of the poem and the intelligence of the reader. I like your poem. 8)
