Scarecrow at Santa's Stable

Post by the mingo » December 21st, 2012, 1:37 pm

My frugal canyons are territory packed tight
with nightbird women who swelter in their tambourine cellphone tobacco swirl
their nebulas all of trombonist tactics with the sea as their stopwatch
- an opulent getaway -
i could live with them in the oil boom sands of North Dakota
unsuspicious of savagery or miracle ...

our narrative a line of bread in the grass
broken for the crows and to mark our graves
when the dirt comes down

the calendar's teeth are my caretaker
& the children we leave behind
will lick sugarcane at midsummer
& wonder at the tundra
& at what the reindeer eat
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.
