A Poem About Snowflakes

Post by theirishsea » February 7th, 2013, 9:47 pm

neither mind nor eye see
all the rapturous geometry
as it changes in its atmospheric fall
that dance down to earth
oh whether hexagon or octagon
but polygon nonetheless
the nodes and vacancies
that fill out a form
how the molecules link
paper dolls or popcorn garlands
and each unit
each ballet of substance
unique
at least the scientists say that
but the mind, the eye
of plodding, tramping humans
see only the white fields
or covered streets, roofs, cars
and it all looks the same
evolution
hasn't fined tuned discrimination
or appreciation

poetry
that wondrous look at the world
thru language
is the gift of the few
perhaps commerce crushes
the many into
indiscriminate mush
perhaps a poet's views and arguments
are the lucky landings
of some of us
high up in a tree
and we spy the errant flake
and marvel at its thinness
clinging
all the while
to this language tree
that keeps us free
of banal commerce
The Irish Sea Is Always In Turmoil, Even When Calm.

I enjoyed this, especially "poetry that wondrous look at the world", in the context of your words....David
