Precious little bird
you flew into my life life a fine feather
your little wing was wounded
but your heart fluttered into my hands
I saw the dark weather you flew out of
the heights you had sought to reach
and the ground you flopped hard down on
precious little bird
there was nothing like the first time I met you
your flight path through the dark storm
brought you to me in a frenzy of flapping
when I picked you up from the crash street
you calmed right down when I held you close
like a warm messenger from the gods
who had flown in on a torrent of the times
bearing the secret note from the higher source
your course through the lightning and thunder
guided by a gentle breeze you brought with you
I folded my arms around the miracle of you
felt the love light deep in your soft breast
rest in eternity my pretty little bird
your broken wing now healed by the bird song
you carried with you all your precious self days
and I hear you singing all around me
from the night sky forever tree golden nest
