Better Slice and Die (spenserian verse)

With gentle hands I smoothed the veil of years,
A dream more pure than truth could ever be.
I would release this cup of constant tears,
With clarity see life flow over me.

Upon the shore of thought, an endless sea
Before me spanning all that time has wrought.
Past hope and aspiration wheeling free
In spite of all the lessons life has taught.

This futile battle ever long I’ve fought,
To fall upon a blade that love would hone,
With beauty’s’ tender mercy forged and bought.
I would that it slice clean and sever bone.

In salted wounds I spew the bitter grape,
And contemplate a souls’ repeated rape.
