like black birds

At first the words came in on the crisp white paper
as if the writing was about the most forbidden thing
because we don't want to read about mundane things
we almost expect to be brainwashed right off the bat
this is not why we read things for the heck of it
rather we read things for the hell of it

we secretly are looking for the most bizarre, most obscene
not because it has to be secret but because that is how it is
look for the secret most obscure outrageous totally oblivious
not because it really is all those things but because it might be
we simply have no way of knowing just how other it is
or how other it isn't

it simply is what ever contraption our thing imaginations make it
what ever our conception hallucination manifestation history makes us
what we make of it is what it makes of us as we are making it up
we make it up as we go along to get along so as to seem like it is
there is this and that and the other there is no way getting around that

I dreamed you and loved you and kissed and fucked you and spoke to you
we go on as if we haven't seen everything written on the wall already
as if it hasn't already been spelled out to us from the powers that be
as if it was not crammed down our minds with all unconscious signifier
we already assume that it is so because it says it is so, or else

and here is the ultimate clincher the complete agenda the final outcome
or else everything you have been told is a lie or it is the absolute truth
or else it is neither here or there it is everywhere or nowhere or not
you read what is on the crisp white page because of the stark contrast
of the bold words that seem to come out of nowhere, like black birds

especially like the concluding stanza and that metaphor for it all
The Irish Sea Is Always In Turmoil, Even When Calm.
