paper towels and other things

paper towels were once parts of trees
wrapping around themselves
widening their volume
speaking discretely
through the patter up and down
of squirrels
but now they clean up the mess
spilled into a kitchen of cursing
or clatter
or bubble over

maybe they wipe a chin
or a hand
then attached to the refuse
as words often are
they are put in the trash
never seen
like personal poems or confessions
or diary dreams
