words are shadows
even inanimate things are ideas
Plato had it right
except the thing is prime
the ideas are ghosts
little gods of creation
that move emotions and the limbs
of human beings but do the
chemicals rule, bubble up
provide the elixir, change nothing
into gold and that an atom
with a certain amount of
electrons, protons, neutrons,
the letters Au as symbol
and the weight?
are the numbers not words
concepts, pressures on tongue
mind, scale, and all within
the human, though the real
is dumb, solid, fleeting
but the shadows remain
as it some Shroud of Turin image
but is the Divine not a
natural consequence of
unsatisfactory explanation
of something that the hu
man can't grasp?

Re: Words Are Shadows
How the fuck should I know but I like the poem.
We should not mind if on our ear there fell. Some less of cunning, more of oracle...Thoreau
Re: Words Are Shadows
Plato, yes I studied the guy back in the 1970s. What is real does not exist, what exists is not real or some such things Like the poem, Irish, enjoyed.

Re: Words Are Shadows
squinting into the sun
life becomes
the casting itself
we become the shadow
bodyless and free
from the mortal coil
the sun proposes
that we die
and dying does not sit well with us
so we hide ourselves in the shadow
of words
life becomes
the casting itself
we become the shadow
bodyless and free
from the mortal coil
the sun proposes
that we die
and dying does not sit well with us
so we hide ourselves in the shadow
of words
