the ghost of my other

I don't have much time left
the jackals are closing in
the shadows of my mind
once I saw a vast highway before me
a black ribbon of tape unraveled my view
the coffee was thick with new ideas
and the sun shone in my deep cup
love was a blue day breathing you in
now the curtains are being drawn
over my beat morning dreams
where once the words turned my world
now I hear them being uttered over me
I saw a beautiful woman today
with a tattoo on her leg with a skull and dice
I saw birds in there too flying through the ink
but I cannot think anymore about the meaning
of death and sex on a young woman's calf
I have lost too the mad sound of my spirit laugh
the ghost of my other is calling to me from a far
and the distant star draws me to her past twilight

nothing terminal in the near future
I just had a bad experience with
a woman a lot younger then me
also I miss my wife terribly
I once met Billy Burroughs
I bought him a beer
he died about a year later
I also heard his dad read live
I have eaten my Naked Lunch
and my Reality Sandwiches

thanks for the thoughts

profound sadness lingers, the enthusiasm of youth long gone...extremely fond of the lines:

but I cannot think anymore about the meaning
of death and sex on a young woman's calf
