my thoughts tonight
wet with snow turning to rain
and cold -
don't want to fight spirits tonight
don't want to struggle against demons
don't want to push away
an old memory of the next youngest sister
of a future wife whose skin
was necessary & wild above the harvest
i was always looking at it
and at her when no one was looking
all burrowed down inside of me
and kept secret by me
practicing my own game on the sands
that recorded my passage
across long gone summers that witnessed all
& understood
