old school

earth school
is voluntary
unlike elementary school,
where we are not required by any natural or unnatural forces
to open our eyes,
not like middle school or
high school
that didn't really get us high despite the insertion of that word
it was just another trick
not like the university of passe plums
no.... earth school for some odd reason is not
even offered up as an option, all we have
are posers, who like to be called academics calling the shots
how did this happen, shouldn't it be clear
that math and english are not enough
that mere IQ will not prepare us for the world or keep us alive and vibrant
we need developed and nurtured hearts
we need cultivated, practiced, experienced souls
we need EQ ( emotional quotient ) that can flourish in the school of the planet
we need earth school..........we need educated love, we need empathy
forgive my proselytizing
its just that I want to point out this obvious omission
and of course I understand we would also need to revolt
get rid of the wealthy capitalist assholes that created these old schools
that serve their purposes
here in the U.S. we graduate ill prepared unsuspecting puppets
that will spend the rest of their lives
trying to repay their college loans and often cannot find work in their field of study
where's the love ?
once again, pardon my rant......its a habit of mine to preach on Tuesdays
so sorry, as I know when you began to read this poem
you had no idea that you had stumbled off the street
into my congregation......please forgive me
and forget everything that I just said
im just another idiot lost in a vast ocean
of frustration,
and preaching on Tuesdays seems to help me somewhat
