blanket of denial

what if i had the guts

to write a poem that sliced open my chest
and you could look inside and see my innards
squirming alien life forms of truth bleeding out
on my floor

and what if you couldn't turn away
just kept looking too fascinated to call 911
or ask me where I keep the needles and thread
would you feel ashamed

by your morbid curiosity to stare at the pulsating
sins, excited like a voyeur peeping from the closet
through a crack in the bedroom wall, what if
you learned all the details of a lifelong fetish

would you pipe up, " how courageous", this exposure
or would you only see depravity , would you laugh
uncomfortably at this odd vulnerability
staring back into your eyes, could I count on you

to look inside yourself if need be, contain
your disillusionment, be a supportive friend
confess your own secrets or would you have finally seen
too much, need to divert your eyes

throw a blanket over my open wound
while you gaze at the ceiling and whistle
thinking to yourself, out of sight
out of mind

I wish I had wrote that 8)
If I could have, I would have cracked open my head
popped the hood on my skull so to speak
have a look at what drives my darkest thoughts

powerhouse poem that (bleep!) reads like a serial poet would write
on a new moon night, cloudless with barely a twinkle of a star
in the sky to interrupt the flow of curling sounds of truth screaming "yes!"
