If you put the gun to your head
and pull the trigger, you will be gone
in a flash. you will not even hear
the bang, it will be the tree
falling in a forest;
all over again.

I still remember the sound of the "click" of the mechanism
I used to sleep with a shotgun tucked up under my chin my finger on the trigger
and I would imagine the click
and then drift off to blessed sleep
I have not slept that soundly in years

actually I never owned a shotgun
but there was one in my roommates closet, so Imagined that

damn good poem
theme and capture 8)
please pardon pitiful compulsion to
blurt out bits and pieces of meaning less biographical details

'whatever gets you through the night'
when thoughts come wrong side up
I'm not the one to judge

I can't, I had a strange week and 2 poems came out of it, this was one of them.

A friend E-mailed me and the message told me of a friend from our pasts who has died,
and I had the thought that, if I had not read the message he would still be alive...David

Terry, thanks for your post pal, David

Inspiration is born from many sources. This was one of those many for sure...

Thx for the reply, David.
