v1:
one day the towers fell
as the world tipped on its side
i went off to see my preacher
my shock and pain to confide
he said it's all part of the Plan
the Lord is still in control
so don't dismay and don't delay
you need to join the fold

ch1:
the end of days is near at hand
waiting for the second coming
don't mend the roof, or save the land
waiting for the second coming
he's coming back, he's at our door
waiting for the second coming
to sweep us up to yonder shore
waiting for the second coming

v2:
the old farmers had sunday breakfast
and studied their bible verses
they said muslims only want to kill
but jesus will surely save us
but it must get much worse before better
great shroud of death as cities burn
a third of us must die in the big war
before jesus can return

ch2:
the prophets wrote our final script
waiting for the second coming
the course is set, free will stripped
waiting for the second coming
great tribulation of the whirlwind
waiting for the second coming
but he will save us in the end
waiting for the second coming

yeah. thought I might rework this oldie of mine. even better now !

this is touchy territory I suppose. but it's also fairly simple-minded stuff, even painfully so. stuff that captain obvious might point out. the main trigger for this was an article in one of the Albuquerque weeklies way back in 2005 (when I was on my way to your place), when I read a fascinating, jarring article on the "End Timers." in the article the author described how his parents declined to re-roof their house in 1975 because the "end was near"-- and of course the roof rotted, and they had big problem. the other "trigger" for this were those farmers I overheard back in 2003 at mcdonald's.

anyway, the idea is (says captain obvious): don't let the roof rot. don't trash the planet. don't be a fatalist. we might need this rock to sustain us longer than we think. longer than what some preacher tells us.

indeed. it's infinitely better to trust one's intuition than shift that trust to those who dismiss their inner voice ('Jiminy Cricket') in favor of those who proclaim to speak for any gods.

cpt. obvious has amused me also... and getting more and more work which is a good sign that others appreciate his character, eh?

indeed. and it's amazing how captain obvious is not so obvious to such a large segment of the human population. thanks cec ...
