I wrote a poem about spitting on a mirror
this is a kind of symbolic way to polish your image
spit into the eye that looks back infinitely
this is not a crude gesture, it's not defiant
it's a way to clean what you don't like there
your image cannot spit back
but will accept this act of body fluid offering
with the same reflection that it offers itself
it's like two men spitting into their hands to shake on it
to make the deal solid to the world
so you cannot cheat on it, without breaking the code
this same sealing of double fates, crossed on the palm
reflected back and forth into infinity
when we do this with our own reflection, we give it over even
to the image with all its distortions, contortions, and flaws
but the glass in the mirror is without blemish
I wrote a poem about this because this is what a poem does
